Where did my extracted files go?
In 1.1, you choose the destination before extraction. Each archive is unpacked into its own new folder there. After a successful extraction, click Show extracted files ↗. A numbered name means a folder with the original name already existed.
The archive needs a password
Enter the archive password exactly as supplied, including capital letters. Ask the sender if you do not know it. Your Mac login password and Apple Account password are not automatically the archive password. Support cannot recover an unknown archive password.
The archive will not open
- Download or copy it again in case the file is incomplete.
- Make sure enough space is available for the expanded files; the archive’s compressed size can be much smaller.
- If the archive has several parts, keep all parts together and check the sender’s instructions.
- Try another known-good archive to see whether the issue affects one file or the app generally.
Some damaged, unsupported or encrypted archives cannot be extracted. Send the exact error text and file extension to support. Do not send a confidential archive unless we specifically arrange a suitable way to investigate it.
I cannot use the destination folder
Choose another writable folder, such as a new folder in Documents. If the archive or output is on an external drive, confirm that the drive is connected, has space and allows writing. In 1.1, select the destination again using the folder picker.
I cancelled, but files are left behind
Cancellation can leave partial output. Check the destination and keep your original archive. Review any partial files before removing them, then start a new extraction when ready.
