Cut out a subject. Keep the control.
- Choose File → Open and open a photo with a clear person, product or object.
- Choose Layer → Remove Background. bitPhoto uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework to find the subject, including hair and fine edges.
- The result is an editable layer mask. Refine it as needed, undo with ⌘Z, or move the subject onto a new backdrop.
- Use File → Save As to preserve the layered project.
- Choose Export… for PNG or JPEG. Use PNG when you need transparency in the exported composition.
A selection and a mask are different
Select → Subject creates a selection outline. Use Layer → Remove Background for the editable-mask workflow described above.
If no subject is found
Start with a photo that has a clear subject. Some landscapes and ambiguous scenes do not produce a subject mask; the classical method can run as a fallback. Inspect the edges and refine the mask rather than assuming every image will cut out cleanly. See cutout and file troubleshooting.
Your photo stays on your Mac
The subject detection runs locally with Apple Vision. No account or cloud upload is needed.
