The cutout misses part of my subject
Use a photo with a clear person, product or object. Busy backgrounds, landscapes and ambiguous subjects can produce incomplete results or no subject. The result of Layer → Remove Background is a mask you can refine; use ⌘Z to undo and try another image if needed.
I see an outline instead of a removed background
Select → Subject produces a selection outline. For the editable layer-mask workflow, choose Layer → Remove Background.
A PSD looks different
Compatibility varies by document. Complex typography, color modes and effects can differ from the application that created the file. Keep your original PSD and use a copy while checking the result. Adobe cloud services and Photoshop plug-ins are not included.
I need to keep editing after export
Save a layered project with File → Save As before exporting. PNG and JPEG are delivery formats; keep your layered master separately so you can return to text, shapes and masks.
I cannot open or save a file
Select the file or destination again through the native picker. Use a writable folder, confirm an external drive is connected, and check available disk space. Keep the original file while investigating.
